Moulting
Moulting is the process by which a tarantula grows, it sheds its old skin and is completely renewed.
Spiderlings will moult around once a month for the first six months, then around every three months for approximately one year.
When they are around 2 inches and starting to show colour I class them as juveniles.
Juveniles moult approximately every four months depending on the species, vagans and albopilosum being faster growing will moult more quickly.
At the 3 to 4 inch mark when they are showing their full adult colour, they are classed as sub adult. At this point the moulting is approximately six to nine months apart.
Adults will normally moult once a year usually between September and November, depending on the conditions in which they are kept. Males tend to moult earlier in my experience, between August and September. I suspect this is so they are ready to mate when the females are freshly moulted, though this is only conjecture on my part.
